Vigorous smartweed that tolerates shade. This survived many years of very heavy deer pressure and being smothered by stiltgrass, although it is spreading and growing more densely now that the impacts of both have been reduced. It can colonize an area once established, with the seeds literally jumping several feet away as you brush by it. This population does display a chevron-shaped marking on new leaves in spring, but it disappears by late spring/early summer.
Here it grows best in shade to partial sun and mesic to moist conditions. Germination: winter sow or cold stratify for at least 60 days Learn more at: iNaturalist and the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center
